Sir Robert Greig Memorial Trophy

Our very own Ian Welsh receives the Sir Robert Greig Memorial Trophy on behalf of Berridale Allotments & Gardens Association.

The trophy is awarded to the site with the best overall quality and diversity of vegetables, herbs and fruit. It was presented during the Evergreen Glasgow Flower and Vegetable show in Kibble Palace by Peter Wright, Scottish Allotments and Gardens Trophies convenor.

Congratulations also to Merrylee Primary School and Our Lady of the Annunciation RC Primary School who won the Miller Cup, and to Merrylee Plotholders Association who were awarded the Amenity Shield.

New members: plot inspections

Information for new members:
Over the growing season (March to October) the committee performs monthly inspections using the inspection sheet shown below.

The reason for undertaking inspections is to ensure that all plots are being maintained to an acceptable standard. Significant shortcomings are discussed at the committee meeting and may result in a letter to the plotholder, describing the problem and requesting remedial action. Two letters result in an invitation to provide an explanation at the Annual General Meeting.

This system might sound draconian, but it's only fair to other members that you keep your plot under cultivation, neat and tidy and, as far as possible, free from weeds. Remember that shared paths between plots are the joint responsibility of the adjacent plotholders. You should also ensure that the frontage to your plot - either grass or red blaize - is kept neat and weed-free.

If you have any queries or concerns, please speak to one of the committee members.
